Sourced from Sue Trott’s vineyard in Blewitt Springs off dry-grown bush vines planted in '52; soils are deep Maslin sand over clay and ironstone; 10% whole bunch, the remainder destemmed; 10 days on skins; matured in stainless steel. From a hallowed site, this is a deeply layered expression, though so transparent of making. Fruits flow through red and into black, with some sour plums jostling with the redcurrant jelly and ripe wild-raspberry notes, Baharat spices, bergamot, tamarind paste and warmed star anise. Even at this early stage, there is a deeply meditative quality to the expression, a wine speaking clearly of fruit, place and a beneficial (if difficult) season. Marcus Ellis

Mid crimson. Fragrant black fruit, with a touch of fruit-pastille sweetness. The finely dry texture reins back the fruit sweetness. Elegant tannin texture. Cool and scented for a wine of 14.5%. GV for this new wave of McLaren Vale Grenache, especially knowing that the cost of old-vine Grenache has risen steeply.
The Willunga 100 'Trott Vineyard Blewitt Springs' Grenache 2022 is a striking expression of McLaren Vale Grenache, sourced from the famed Blewitt Springs sub-region. This single-vineyard wine highlights old-vine Grenache grown in deep sandy soils, bringing purity, elegance, and finesse to the bottle.
They made their first single vineyard wine in 2009, and have since helped pioneer a fresher, more lifted style
92 points from other reviews - The wine has a bright lifted nose of redcurrant, boysenberry and violets. This profile continues onto the palate where the red berry fruit is complemented by warm cinnamon spice, orange zest and cranberry. The wine finishes with bright, juicy acidity and lingering fine grained tannins.

Particularly fragrant, with rose and lavender, pomegranate and blueberry. Soft and yielding, plump, juicy and easy-going style. Firm acids ride in on the finish, with soft but tense tannins. Violets continue the floral style on the finish. Grown on grey loamy sands.
Matthew Jukes comments:
Gets out of the blocks quickly with a terrific nose of blood and roses. It’s like the Red Wedding in vinous form with ironstone arrowheads piercing blood-red bodices. Superb, adult, menacing and stunningly dry, this is a phenomenal wine, bringing this cornucopia of outstanding Willunga 100 wines to a close.
