Tasted By The Posh Off Licence 2025.

Usually, I’m snobby about whiskies under 12 years, but Port Askaig 8 proves me wrong. That shorter time in barrel means it takes on bold flavour without mellowing into blandness. Ignore the 8 years—this is a great sipper and superb value for money.

Flavour profile: Sweet peat smoke, sea spray, and charred oak upfront, balanced by orchard fruits, citrus zest, and a touch of vanilla cream. The finish lingers with ash, brine, and a clean mineral edge.

Named after the port known as the gateway to Islay, Port Askaig 8-Year-Old is a single malt that reflects the character of the island. An Islay whisky that has been further matured in a variety of casks for a minimum of 5 years, this refined, balanced liquid offers Islay’s distinctive salinity and peat smoke. Best sipped neat to appreciate the delicacy and vibrancy of the flavours, or mixed into a refreshing highball with soda and a slice of lemon.
