Mid to light garnet. Sweet-fruited and lightly toasty on first impression – fragrant red fruits slightly hidden by the oak. Tannins are finely textured and in proportion to the juicy fresh fruit. Still primary in its fruit/oak balance but with the harmony to age well. Needs a little longer to integrate fully. Relatively light-bodied. I'd drink this slightly cool but not chilled.
Greywacke Pinot Noir 2022 has caught the eye of Emma Jenkins MW. In the latest edition of Decanter Magazine, Emma's 'New Zealand Pinot Noir Vintage Report' celebrates the quality and diversity of pinot noir being produced in New Zealand.
"New Zealand is a long, thin string of mountainous islands surrounded by the Southern Ocean," explains Emma. "Regions just a few hundred kilometres apart can have significantly different growing conditions due to rain shadows, prevailing winds and river systems." Emma says that one of the joys of New Zealand Pinot Noir is its accessibility. "Few wines need cellaring, though the better wines will still comfortably mature for 10 years or more."

"Lovely opulence and perfume from the start, full of dark cherry, damson plum, earth and spice, a touch of orange peel and clove; slightly smoky, too. Lots to enjoy here. A finely textured palate, quite velvety but with ripe tannins providing good backbone and structure. Nicely balanced. Impressive concentration in what was a trickier year. 95 points."

an impressive accolade from Wine Enthusiast magazine landing on our desks over the weekend.
Writer-at-large, Christina Pickard has awarded Greywacke Pinot Noir with an Editors’ Choice special designation, a distinction given to wines 'deemed to offer excellent quality at a price above the magazine's Best Buy range, or a product at any price with unique qualities that merit special attention'. We couldn't be more chuffed.
Greywacke Pinot Noir 2022
"This is a wine that reminds us why we love the fermented grape in the first place. From the heady, hopelessly charming perfume of mixed berry compote, peppery spice, sage and dried flowers on their stalks, to the wonderfully bright acidity that plays alongside taut, sinewy tannins and tangy berry, floral and herbal notes—it's hard to resist. Characterful and expressive, with enough structure to pair with glazed duck or to cellar for several more years. 96 Points, Superb."
