Cremant Rose, JCB '69', France
The Crémant de Bourgogne JCB No. 69 Rosé is a sparkling rosé wine made in Burgundy, France by Jean-Charles Boisset (JCB). The "69" is a nod to both the year of Jean-Charles's birth (1969) and a cheeky reference to the wine's sensual personality.
🍇 Grape Variety
-
Made primarily from Pinot Noir, the signature red grape of Burgundy.
-
Sometimes may include a small portion of Chardonnay or Gamay, depending on the vintage, but Pinot Noir is the star.
🧪 Winemaking – Traditional Method (Méthode Traditionnelle)
Just like Champagne, it’s made using the traditional method:
-
First Fermentation: -
Pinot Noir grapes are gently pressed and fermented into a still rosé wine.

-
-
Blending (if needed): -
May involve blending with a small amount of white wine (or using the saignée method for color extraction from red grapes).

-
-
Second Fermentation (in bottle): -
A mixture of yeast and sugar (liqueur de tirage) is added before bottling to initiate a second fermentation in the bottle, which creates bubbles.

-
-
Aging on Lees: -
Aged on the lees (dead yeast cells) for at least 12 months, often longer, to develop creamy texture and complexity.

-
-
Riddling & Disgorging: -
Bottles are rotated (riddled) to collect lees near the cap, then frozen and the sediment is removed (disgorged).

-
-
Dosage: -
A small amount of sugar solution is added (the dosage) to balance acidity. JCB No. 69 is typically made in a Brut style — dry but not bone dry.
