The 2023 Riesling Roter Hang Niersteiner is from Erste Lagen vineyards. It’s made from Pettenthal and Hipping as a base, with a touch of 'heat' from the Rothenberg, Hasselbach says. Flinty reduction unites enticingly with crunchy green-red apple and salty savour on the nose. Slenderness and streamlined concentration define the palate, moving with agility, urgency and freshness. It’s all framed by salty, spicy, stony herbal notes that are hard to pin down, tingling amidst lemony, zesty, pithy freshness. This is a real step up. (Bone-dry)
