English Sparkling, Langham Estates ‘Blanc de blancs', England
Introducing their new release of Blanc de Blancs, produced entirely from 100% Chardonnay grapes grown on the chalk soils of their rural Dorset vineyard.
Unlike a Chardonnay-dominant blend, Corallian, the base wines for our Blanc de Blancs come from a higher proportion of oak, and the wine spends longer on the lees during secondary fermentation.
This sparkling wine is smoky and complex on the nose, with aromas of dried orange peel, liquorice root and poached pear. The palate is bright and energetic with fragrant, pomelo-esque acidity and finishes with a satisfying ripe peach character, reflecting the warmth of the 2020 vintage.
Blanc de Blancs pairs well with fresh shellfish, especially the excellent oysters and crab from the Dorset coast, as well as luxurious British fish such as Turbot in rich sauces.
Langham Wine Estate in Dorset is one of the most exciting names in English wine, with the IWSC naming them ‘Sparkling Wine Producer of the Year’ in 2020.
Langham’s grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted in the vineyard and winery. Akin to grower Champagne, Langham’s flagship Blanc de Blancs is complex and refined, with notes of lemon, stone fruits, salted almonds and a long, mineral finish. Heady nose with the lightest of oak influences. Really intense on the palate, along with zesty, citrus acidity in great balance with the brightest Chardonnay fruit.
Impressive!
