We’ve been on the hunt for the right rum to pour at the re-launch of The Posh Off Licence Bar 2.0. With autumn and winter on the horizon, a spiced rum felt like the natural choice — warming, versatile, and very much in demand. The fun part? We “researched” our way through plenty of bottles (purely for professional reasons, of course).
Our winner comes from the brilliantly named We Are Curious Creatures, based not in the tropics but in… Yorkshire. Their Spiced Rum is distilled in the Caribbean — which explains the tropical flavour profile of orange peel, vanilla, cinnamon, toffee, and ginger — but it’s blended, bottled, and given its finishing touches back home in Yorkshire. Hence the strapline: “Born in the Caribbean, Raised on Curiosity.”
No sugarcane fields on the Moors, then — just a Yorkshire company curating and elevating Caribbean rum with a sense of adventure. The result has already won a Silver at the Farm Shop & Deli Product Awards, so it comes with serious credentials.
And the taste? We tried it neat, then over ice. Expect rich spice, warming caramel, and soft vanilla leading to a clean, smooth finish with a lively kick of ginger. It’s moreish, balanced, and exactly the kind of glass you want in your hand as the nights draw in.
